Personalize Yoga Therapy
Yoga Therapy is a personalized approach that meets you where you are. Rather than following a traditional group class or a predetermined sequence of postures, Yoga Therapy draws upon the many tools of yoga to create practices that support your individual needs, abilities, challenges, and wellness goals.
Through mindful movement, breathing practices, meditation, relaxation, and self-awareness, Yoga Therapy invites you to develop a deeper relationship with your body and become an active participant in your own well-being.
A Whole-Person Approach
Yoga Therapy recognizes that we are more than our physical bodies. Our breath, thoughts, emotions, nervous system, lifestyle, and life experiences are interconnected.
A Yoga Therapy session may incorporate:
Gentle and therapeutic movement to encourage mobility, strength, balance, and greater ease in the body.
Breathwork (Pranayama) to support relaxation, nervous-system regulation, and a deeper connection between body and mind.
Meditation and mindfulness to cultivate presence, self-awareness, and emotional balance.
Deep relaxation and guided imagery to encourage rest, restoration, and a sense of inner calm.
Somatic awareness to help you listen more deeply to the body's sensations and recognize patterns of holding, tension, and movement.
The practices are adapted to you rather than asking you to adapt yourself to the practice.
How Can Yoga Therapy Support You?
People come to Yoga Therapy for many different reasons. Some are navigating physical limitations or changes in mobility. Others are experiencing stress, fatigue, life transitions, or simply want to feel more connected and at home in their bodies.
Personalized Yoga Therapy practice may support:
Mobility, flexibility and balance
Gentle, appropriate movement can help maintain functional movement and greater confidence in everyday activities.Stress reduction and relaxation
Breath, meditation, and mindful movement can help encourage the body's natural relaxation response and create greater ease.
Healthy aging
Practices can be adapted as our bodies change, supporting strength, balance, mobility, body awareness, and continued independence.Mind-body awareness
Yoga Therapy encourages you to notice your body's signals and develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself.Living with ongoing health challenges
When appropriate and in collaboration with your healthcare providers, Yoga Therapy can serve as a complementary wellness practice for people navigating chronic conditions, recovery, or changes in physical ability.
What Makes Yoga Therapy Different?
In a traditional yoga class, everyone generally follows the same practice. In Yoga Therapy, the practice begins with you.
Your current abilities, health history, lifestyle, goals, and personal experience help guide the process. Practices can be modified and refined over time as your needs change.
The intention is not to achieve the perfect yoga pose. It is to discover the movements, breathing practices, and awareness tools that help you experience greater ease, connection, and vitality in your practice, and in everyday life.
Empowering Your Own Well-Being
One of the most beautiful aspects of Yoga Therapy is that the tools you learn become your own.
Through practice, you begin to recognize what helps you feel grounded, what brings greater ease to your body, what calms your nervous system, and what supports you in returning to balance.
Yoga Therapy becomes more than something you do. It can become a way of listening—to your breath, your body, and your own inner wisdom.
At Yoga Phoenix, we believe that greater self-awareness gives us more choices in how we care for ourselves. Yoga Therapy offers a gentle and individualized pathway toward that awareness.
